COCOTAX INVITATION TO ATTEND A BOARD/MEMBERS MEETING THURSDAY September 25, 2025 at 6:00pm.

The Contra Costa Taxpayers Association (CoCoTax) invites you to attend a special Board /Members Meeting on Thursday, September 25, 2025 at 6:00pm. Please note that we are using a new location and new payment procedures for this meeting (similar to those we used in July).

We'll be meeting at the Chicken Pie Shop, 1251 Arroyo Way, Walnut Creek, CA 94596 (near Civic Drive). Free parking is available behind the restaurant and at Civic Park. The restaurant is also within walking distance of Walnut Creek BART.

Attendees will receive separate bills from the restaurant for lunch depending on what they order.  We are charging a nominal registration fee of $5 for members and $10 for guests to cover our organizing costs and so that we can get a good advance count of attendees.  Please register in advance and, if possible, pay online.

 CONTRA COSTA MUNICIPAL FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE

Our main speaker will be Boomer Shannon from California Policy Center. Boomer will be discussing CPC's Fiscal Health Dashboard which contains financial scores the center has calculated for all Contra Costa County cities.

Before joining CPC, Boomer was Chief of Staff to Riverside County Supervisor Jeff Hewitt. There, he played a key role in stabilizing the County's finances. Boomer is also a board member of the Center for Financial Empowerment which provides financial education to teens and young adults.

UPDATE ON LAFAYETTE SCHOOL DISTRICT FINANCES

We will also receive a short update from Lafayette School District Superintendent Brent Stephens on the district's financial status as one of its parcel taxes is scheduled to expire on June 30, 2027.

Prior to joining LaSD, Dr. Stephens served as Superintendent of the Berkeley Unified School District.

He holds a doctorate from Harvard University, and his work on school reform has been published by Harvard Education Press.
