Let’s get a report from Contra Costa County on its 2023-2024 budget.  What issues are they facing? What are we spending or obligated to spend?  How have they controlled expenses during this period of high inflation?

Introducing Adam Nguyen, our Contra Costa County Finance Director.

Adam Nguyen began his career in public service with the Peace Corps from 2003-2005. As a public health volunteer in Kenya, he helped launch and operate an HIV/AIDS Voluntary Counseling and Testing Center in a rural town on Mount Kilimanjaro, and taught math and karate to grades 2-8 at a school for former street-girls. Afterwards, he studied public policy at UC Berkeley, and then worked for the City and County of San Francisco for 16 years, first as a senior analyst for the Human Services Agency doing systems change and program evaluation for Child Welfare Services, and then as a fiscal manager for the agency. For 10 years, he was the finance and planning director for the San Francisco City Administrator's Office, where he managed the budget, accounting, policy analysis, and IT projects for 25+ city departments and programs. He joined Contra Costa County as the County Finance Director in 2022 and oversees budget development and management for its $5.5B annual budget. Adam holds Bachelors’ degrees in Philosophy and Politics from UC Santa Cruz, and a Master of Public Policy from UC Berkeley.

Come to our CoCoTax Friday on June 23rd Luncheon and hear about the nitty gritty directly from our Contra Costa County Finance Director.  He oversees the budget and programs of the finance departments, coordinates the annual county budget, manages the county’s short-term borrowing and on-going debt administration programs and much more!  He will be telling us the issues the County faces and fielding your questions about balancing the budget.   This is a presentation you will want to attend!
